»Although each of the three musicians displayed a distinct artistic personality, they responded to one another with remarkable alertness, creating an electrifying performance that held the audience’s attention from beginning to end,« wrote the Süddeutsche Zeitung about the Amelio Trio. Remarkably, although the three musicians are still only in their mid-twenties, the ensemble is already approaching its fifteenth anniversary.

Johanna Schubert, Merle Geißler and Philipp Kirchner founded the Amelio Trio in 2012 for the German youth competition »Jugend musiziert«. Since then, they have won prizes at both the prestigious ARD International Music Competition and the German Music Competition. In 2025, they released their debut album, »Time in Flux …«, which was nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award. Their appearance in the Elbphilharmonie Recital Hall marks another milestone: it means they will have performed in all four concert halls of the Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle.

The programme moves between undisputed classics of the piano trio repertoire and contemporary music. Ludwig van Beethoven’s celebrated »Archduke Trio« is paired with the rarely performed trio by Charles Ives, in which the American composer reflects on his college years through a fascinating blend of musical innovation and eccentricity. The Amelio Trio also performs new works by Birke Bertelsmeier and Helena Winkelman.
