Founded 20 years ago by Baaba Maal & Damon Albarn, Africa Express is a unique musical collective that aims to bring stars from the African continent to international stages. The project began in 2006 in Mali, where local stars such as Toumani Diabaté, Bassekou Kouyaté and Amadou & Mariam met international guest artists such as Martha Wainwright, Fatboy Slim and co-founder Damon Albarn. Today, Africa Express is a globally acclaimed project that has expanded its musical horizons even further. On the current tour, stars and newcomers from Africa, Mexico, Great Britain and the USA present a cross-genre show that ranges from cumbia, hip-hop and kuduro to soul, salsa, folk and pop. This includes brand new songs created for the legendary Mexican festival Bahidorá 2024. The concerts are unique, wild jam parties whose course and duration are almost unpredictable – the perfect start to the summer!
