Adjiri Odametey Trio - Eklonko
African world music
Singer-songwriter Adjiri Odametey's trademark is his warm, earthy voice. The multi-instrumentalist is a master of instruments such as the thumb pianos mbira and kalimba, kora, balafon, and guitar, and is considered one of the most impressive representatives of African music today. Adjiri Odametey first gained recognition with the title track of his debut album, "Mala." Now, with his trio "Ekonklo," he presents his latest, fourth album.
Adjiri Odametey grew up in Accra, the capital of Ghana, a city where people of diverse ethnicities have always cultivated their musical traditions. Even in his youth, his international tours exposed him to a wide range of styles – including Western music – which would later influence his compositions. As a member of bands like the Pan African Orchestra, he recorded their debut album, "Opus 1," at Peter Gabriel's legendary Real World Studio. Odametey forged his own unique style, always mindful of his West African roots.
The press writes about him: “His life is a prime example of the possibilities of cultural clash. His interest in both traditional African and modern Western influences provides a rich foundation upon which his unique music is built.” As an ambassador of authentic African music, he effortlessly achieves crossover success.
