16 Years of Gängeviertel: Form Gangs!
Art, discourse, festival, concerts, club, exhibitions, workshops, readings, performances, spontaneity and the unexpected – August 21 to 24
Adventure playground, think tank, party basement – for one weekend, the Gängeviertel gives the people of this city exactly what they need. Artists and initiatives from Hamburg, Leipzig, Berlin, and many other places bring their visions to shape our program, share knowledge, and make some noise. Be part of it! Come celebrate the Gängeviertel’s birthday from August 21 to 24!
“Form Gangs” is this year’s motto. We always aim to be a place where you can come together – to make plans, empower each other, and build community. Sometimes we succeed, sometimes we don’t. But one thing is certain: only by sticking together can we push back against the growing Bullshit out there. So come to the Gängeviertel and join in!
From workshops and readings to performances and a jam session – our program is as diverse as ever: Drag shows, How to Twerk, Tox instead of Detox – and that’s just the letter T. After Lollipop Yard, Make-Out Yard, and Slip Yard, this year the Coach Yard becomes the Slide Yard – with queer performances, a kids’ space, and plenty of room for shaking booties.
Our “Brachenbühne” offers contrast, with the performance „How To Tox“ – a guide to destroying self-confidence. The Georgian evening at the Jupibar celebrates the (off-)culture of people in Tbilisi who have been protesting government repression for months.
Our galleries are also involved: At MOM art space, thousands of self-portraits by a founding Gängeviertel activist show the power of time. In Raum linksrechts, artist Vitor Aguiar explores political identity, social contradictions, and ideological distortion – playfully yet profoundly. Gruppe Motto is organizing an Artist Fair on Speckstraße with fellow artists – featuring ceramics, photo prints, lithographs, and zines. At Galerie LADØNS, artist Vasso Tzouti traces the embodied traces of collective grief.
And there’s more: The Gängeviertel Museum will be open. There will be a guided tour on the subversive history of the surrounding neighborhood. The Kunstkiosk will be parked for you at Valentinskamp. Django Knoth creates long-exposure memories. You might be discovered at the Maby Talent Show. And there will be live music across various stages – DJs, bands, jam sessions – from Kostenfalle to Blowjobs are Realjobs, from Alien Chicks to Brass Riot, from Rock N Rosa to I double m-o.
A detailed overview of the program for all areas will be available soon!
Our awareness team will be available for you every day.
Be nice to each other.
So that we can be powerful together!
