Opernloft

Opera can be awesome - but only in the opera loft! Because here every opera is a special event. Here every opera lasts a refreshing 90 minutes. And only here can you look directly from the theatre hall onto the Elbe.

The stylish theatre was built into the terminal of the former England ferry. Generous glass surfaces provide a view of the Elbe and the sunset. High ceilings and state-of-the-art technology make it possible to experience the opera concept, which is unique in Germany and has won several awards.

Right in the heart of it all and in a nutshell

The works of Mozart, Verdi and Puccini are concentrated on their core and presented in the here and now. You are always right in the middle of the action - either because you are actually sitting in a trattoria where Tosca is baking pizza for you, or because the story touches you directly. There is also the special ambience, because you are sitting right on the banks of the Elbe with your drink and enjoying the performance. The special thing about it: each opera only lasts 90 minutes - that's a promise! The original text is shortened, creating new poins of emphasis and accentuating special perspectives. The operas at the Opernloft are characterised by unusual and innovative staging concepts and always set the action in the present day. In this way, current themes are taken up and dealt with.

Special formats: Immersive event operas, crime opera and opera slam

The Opernloft has also created a new format: In the immersive event opera, which also lasts just 90 minutes, you sit right in the middle of the action. In the award-winning La Traviata, for example, the audience sits at the gaming tables in the casino while the performers sing their parts right among them.

The Opernloft crime operas combine opera and the solving of murder or criminal cases from opera history, such as Carmen, Manon or The Flying Dutchman. The resulting mixture of genres in the crime operas is special: from serious opera arias to sea shanties and well-known pop songs, everything can be included here! There is also a lot more spoken text here, so even opera newcomers can get straight into the action.

Similar to the poetry slam, the singers at the famous opera slam have 90 seconds to sing an aria to a theme and win over the audience. Alongside the singers, the audience plays the most important role: because they decide who wins the slam in the end!
