Spicy's Gewürzmuseum

The unique SPICY'S Gewürzmuseum, housed in an old warehouse in Hamburg's Speicherstadt since 1993, is a spice museum that appeals to all the senses - visitors can smell, touch and taste as much as they please.

Since 1993, the only spice museum in the world has been located in the Speicherstadt. The 50 raw spices and culinary herbs invite you to smell, taste and touch.

Over 900 exhibits from the last five centuries show how spices are processed from cultivation to the finished product. Ancient tools, such as sifting or mixing machine, hammer mill and trolleys, showcase the impressive history throughout the museum. Moreover, the museum provides its visitors with information about the usage, storage and quality of spices. For example, did you know that vanilla is the queen of spices and that saffron is the most expensive spice of them all? Another interesting fact is that both of these are still harvested by hand.
