Metropolis hopping from Berlin to Scandinavia via Hamburg: since 2021, a new night train has been connecting the German capital with Stockholm.

You can travel comfortably and save time by taking an overnight coach from Berlin via Hamburg and Denmark to Sweden.

Berlin – Hamburg – Kopenhagen – Stockholm

Since spring 2021, the Snälltåget provides a direct connection between Berlin and Scandinavian cities. While you sleep, the night express rolls through Hamburg and Copenhagen to Stockholm, offering both time and money savings: you arrive at your destination well rested and save on a night's hotel accommodation.

The train departs from Hamburg at 11:59 p.m. and arrives in Copenhagen the next day at 6:03 a.m. or in Stockholm at 1:17 p.m. In the opposite direction, the train departs from the Swedish capital at 4:25 p.m. or from Copenhagen at 10:32 p.m. It arrives in Hamburg the next morning at 5:06 a.m., before continuing on to Berlin, where it arrives at 8:35 a.m.

Depending on your comfort requirements, you can book tickets for your outward and return journeys from €70 per person. You also have the option of using Interrail or Eurail passes on Snälltåget trains.

Frequently asked questions about the night train to Hamburg

Can I get off at an intermediate stop on the Berlin-Stockholm night train route?

Yes, the connection from Berlin to Stockholm stops at various stations and makes several stops along the way. You can book a ticket to and from any station, just like with Deutsche Bahn.

Are there any discounts?

Adults, seniors aged 60 and over, young people (aged 16 to 25) and students travelling together in the same seat price category receive a 25% discount on the ticket price. Up to four children under 16 receive up to 80% discount on the adult price if the booking includes at least one adult, one senior citizen aged 60 or over, one young person and/or one student.

How are the sleeping cars equipped?

Each carriage is equipped with power sockets and two toilets. Otherwise, the facilities depend on the price category booked. The cheapest option, ‘Seat’, only includes a seat in an open carriage. The ‘Recliner Seat’ is more comfortable, offering passengers not only more space but also cushions and blankets. The most comfortable option, however, is a private compartment for up to six people, where the seats can be converted into beds.

Yes, there is both a restaurant (‘Krogen’) and a snack bar (‘Lönnkrogen’). Pre-ordered breakfast packs can also be picked up at the latter.

How can I use my Interrail ticket on the night train?

A seat reservation is required when travelling with an Interrail ticket. With a Flexi Pass, the travel date must be entered when boarding the night train, and the ticket remains valid until arrival the next day. The entire journey must be completed within the validity period of the pass. Reservations can be made online at Snälltåget.se, specifying that an Interrail pass will be used when booking.
