The location right in the midst of the beautiful district of Ottensen with all its little boutiques and shops makes the Rehbar the perfect place for a small shopping break to enjoy a café au lait and a slice of cheesecake.

The nice thing about the Rehbar: you don’t have to be a night owl to have a good time – because you can do this from 10 am. The location right in the midst of the beautiful district of Ottensen with all its little boutiques and shops (and, if you like, the large Mercando shopping mall around the corner) makes the Rehbar the perfect place for a small shopping break to enjoy a café au lait and a slice of cheesecake. When the weather is nice, you can sit on one of the wooden benches on the pavement outside. If it gets chilly, you can grab a blanket. For many locals, the Rehbar is a fixed institution.

When you enter the café-bar through the wooden door with the bull’s eye, you will dive into an elegant-comfortable atmosphere. The walls are painted dark green, the ceiling shimmers in a warm shade of gold.

Imposing brass candelabras dominate the room, steeping it in a warm light. A large mirror makes the Rehbar appear bigger and multiplies the candelabra splendour. The walls are decorated in numerous kitschy-beautiful vintage deer pictures, reflecting the name of the place. No question: this is a place to feel good.

The cool design of the coffee and cocktail menus, the size of postcards, have a smallish range, but there is still nothing missing here. The philosophy of the owners of the Rehbar is as easy as the mood: “If the coffee tastes good, we offer it to our guests. If we like somebody, we might hire them. If we like the music, then we play it.” There is no room for elite chic. This is probably one of the reasons why guests feel so at home here and always come again.

CITY AREA PORTRAIT Altona & Ottensen

For strolling, having a coffee, taking a walk or having some delicious food – situated directly at the Elbe and traversed by parks, Altona & Ottensen are considered to be charming and diverse districts with character. Brick walls create a rather rough atmosphere in Altona, while it is lively and colourful in Ottensen.
