Rathauspassage Hamburg - Hamburg's social harbor

With its unique concept, the Rathauspassage Hamburg is one of the Hanseatic city's flagship projects in the social sector. Right in the heart of Hamburg, directly below the city's central square, the Rathausmarkt, is a meeting place with Hanseatic restaurants, an adventure bookshop, tourist information and attractive event rooms. The Rathauspassage is run by a dedicated team of specialists and managers and up to 40 people who have been excluded from working life for a long time. Employment in the Rathauspassage gives them a new chance to lead a self-determined life.

Cafédrale - Hanseatic gastronomy

The Cafédrale is the gastronomic heart of the Rathauspassage. Breakfast and lunch as well as coffee and cake specialties can be enjoyed here between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. with the best view, as the generous window fronts allow an unobstructed view of the Alster arcades opposite.

The anchorage

Located in the underpass between Jungfernstieg and the town hall is Ankerplatz, a store designed for to-go offers. It offers high-quality snacks and fresh baked goods, coffee from a Hamburg roastery and cold drinks to take away.

Kehrwieder bookshop

Lovers of antiquarian or current books and bestsellers as well as books with a Hamburg-specific focus will find what they are looking for in this bookshop.
27 of the 33 bookshelves in the "Kehrwieder" are filled with used and antiquarian books, that's around 7,000 copies. The majority of the books on offer are donations, around 20,000 books a month, which are looked through, sorted and priced. Only the saleable books end up in the "longest bookshelf in the Hanseatic city".

"Hamburg (er)leben" is the information center at Hamburg's Rathausmarkt, which is not only aimed at tourists who want to explore the city. Rather, all Hamburg residents who want to discover the somewhat different Hamburg should also benefit from its services. The Rathauspassage will therefore offer city tours on topics such as "Social Sights" or "Hidden Places", which will not only visit the classic highlights, but also the hidden gems of the city.
