Staatsdampfer Schaarhörn
Not only for technology fans is it a real adventure to experience the coal-fired boiler and the almost silent working steam engines of the state steamer Schaarhörn in operation.
In 1908 this two-screw ship, equipped with the most modern facilities, was launched in Hamburg as an "arrow steamer" - today one would call it a surveying ship. In fact, the elegant ship was something like a state yacht, originally built for Emperor Wilhelm II. Instead, the steamer served for decades to survey the sea around the delta of the Elbe. Nowadays, the registered cultural monument serves only as a museum in action, where you can relax while sailing up the Elbe.
