Every year the HAMBURG PORT ANNIVERSARY is traditionally opened by an international ecumenical service in the main church of St. Michaelis.

The solemn opening of the HAMBURG PORT ANNIVERSARY is usually celebrated by the main pastor. Spirituals from different nationalities are also part of the divine service, which has a different motto every year.

In 2019, the motto "Im Wandel der Zeit" was celebrated, among other things, with prominent support. The actor and musician Olli Dittrich gave a sermon as a special guest. Spirituals from Scandinavia, Great Britain and the Philippines also took part in this special service.
