International Ecumenical Service

Opening ceremony of the Hamburg Port Anniversary

Every year the Hamburg Port Anniversary is traditionally opened by an international ecumenical service in the main church of St. Michaelis.

This year it all starts in mid-September. The celebrations for the 833rd HAMBURG PORT ANNIVERSARY begin with the International Ecumenical Service in the main church of St. Michaelis. Clergymen from all over the world will take part in the ceremony.

For a little over a quarter of a century, has been celebrated in public. It is a popular attraction for visitors from near and far.

The solemn opening of is usually celebrated by the main pastor. Clergymen from different nations are also part of the service, which has a different motto each year. The ceremonial opening is followed by numerous attractions - on water as well as on land.
