On her album »Istyna« (Truth), the Ukrainian artist Zavoloka explores the concept of inner freedom and liberation. In the face of the devastating war that has engulfed her country, these themes have moved to the centre of her artistic work. Traditional Ukrainian folk music has also found an increasingly prominent place in her compositions, enriching the distinctive sound for which she is known – a blend of minimalist melodies, complex polyphony and harmonious textures.
The result is Zavoloka’s most personal statement to date, deeply rooted in the culture of her homeland. The emerging composer, performer, sound designer and visual artist is dedicated to uncompromising experimental music that resists conventional genre definitions and stylistic boundaries. Her works are always shaped by a strong conceptual vision, combining traditional and synthetic elements to demonstrate the boundless nature of her creative freedom.
From creating compelling audiovisual live performances and participating in cross-genre artistic projects to co-running the experimental music labels »Prostir«, founding the band Cluster Lizard and pursuing her passion for visual art, cover design and graphic design, Zavoloka has made a distinctive mark on the worlds of music and art.
