Focus on Nature – the international Nature Writing Festival Hamburg 2025 presents our knowledge of nature, its impact, and its significance. Natural sciences and humanities, nonfiction, and literary formats present what they can say about nature: what can be said and where the limits of what can be said lie.
WHAT DOES NATURE SAY? - A philosophical conversation with Hartmut Böhme and Doris Feil.
Artist and philosopher Doris Feil opens the conversation with an art performance, featuring frottages and paintings of plants that point to the thing-in-itself of nature. In conversation with cultural scientist Hartmut Böhme, the two explore the background and reasons for our relationship with nature. What does nature say? And how do we perceive and represent it? Is it perhaps only art that brings nature to language and speech? What paths of experiencing nature can we take? A commentary on many of the festival's thematic approaches.
