For three decades, the Canadian band The Musical Box has faithfully recreated and performed Genesis’s historic stage shows from the Peter Gabriel era, down to the smallest detail. With their new production, »And Then There Was Phil«, they turn to the years 1976–80, when Phil Collins took over as Genesis’s frontman and the band began its rise to become one of the most successful rock bands in the world.
Performed on original instruments with the band’s trademark uncompromising precision, and featuring all the legendary drum duets from the live shows of the era, this spectacular new production draws above all on the technology behind Genesis’s 1978 »Mirror Show«. Working with Theo Botschiver, the original designer, the six large mirror panels, freely movable by servo motors, have been meticulously reconstructed and rebuilt to match the originals in every technical detail. Combined with Genesis’s original 1970s laser effects, the result is a monumental light show brought back to life half a century later – one that could not be recreated in this form using modern Vari-Lites.
