Sharing Stories II
- Exhibition
In collaboration with the Shona Gallery, the IMBA Gallery is exhibiting stone and wood sculptures from the Diehl, Kiefer and Staufenbiehl-Wandschneider collections. These include modern works by internationally renowned representatives of New Shona Art from Zimbabwe, such as Rickson Z. Murehwa, Itai Nyama, Alber Watchi and Perlagia Mutyavaviri, as well as First Generation icon Bernard Matemera and Taguma Mukomberanwa, son of Africa's most important sculptor, Nicholas Mukomberanwa.
The diversity of African art is demonstrated by the sometimes grotesque, sometimes political and always humorous sculptures of wood sculptor Zefania Tshuma, as well as paintings by artists from Nigeria, South Africa and Senegal.
Rickson Murehwa and Itai Nyama will accompany the exhibition for a time and lead a stone sculpture workshop in the IMBA sculpture garden, transforming raw stones into works of art.
