For organisational reasons, the programme has had to be changed. Sasha Waltz will now perform »Bach Cello Dance« alongside cellist Anastasia Kobekina, instead of »Fluence«. Tickets already purchased remain valid.
The world-renowned choreographer Sasha Waltz joins forces with Russian cellist Anastasia Kobekina in an intimate duet that offers a completely new way of experiencing Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cello Suites. Every note becomes visible, every chord tangible and every movement an expression of the music itself – from the flowing preludes and elegant sarabandes to the intricate fugues. Through their playful handling of tempo, phrasing and dynamics, the two artists combine the rigour of the Baroque with the vitality of contemporary choreography.
In fact, three protagonists take to the stage: Waltz, Kobekina and Suggia, the Stradivarius cello. Crafted in 1717, the precious instrument is named after Guilhermina Suggia, one of the first professional female cellists, and is now in the hands of Anastasia Kobekina. It is ideally suited to conveying the many moods of the suites: meditative stillness, dance-like lightness and powerful drama.
