Pettersson and Findus are completely snowed in two days before Christmas. There’s nothing left to eat in the house, and they don’t even have a Christmas tree yet. The little tomcat is worried that they won’t be able to celebrate their beloved festive season at all this year. However, when they set out the next day to chop down a tree in the woods as the weather has finally improved, Pettersson injures his foot so badly that they have to return without a tree and postpone buying the remaining treats. Pettersson is reluctant to accept the help offered by his neighbours, until the little tomcat finally loses his temper. The old man finally sees reason, and together they celebrate the most wonderful Christmas ever.
