That the waltz-soaked »Duidu, Duidu« and its relaxed counterpart »Dudidubidu« are in fact just a stone’s throw – no more than »a warm embracing dance away« – from one another has been clear to the masters of Mnozil Brass for as long as anyone can remember. For more than thirty years, these seven virtuosos have moved with effortless ease and their gleaming brass instruments between Johann Strauss and Frank Sinatra, between Shostakovich and Prince, or, with equal enthusiasm, from Schubert to their kindred spirits in Queen.
The solemn grandeur of one side concerns them just as little as the supposed banality of the other. But Strauss – adored by Brahms, Wagner and Verdi as well as by tradesmen, girls from the suburbs and even Gershwin – was the founding father of this nonchalant dance between musical worlds. Strauss was the first to churn out hit after hit, to bring in an arranger so he could work faster and to realise that, together with his brothers, he could reproduce his sound around the world. He was the first to bridge the gap between »serious« and »popular« music and become a mass phenomenon as the Waltz King – never had the cash registers rung so sweetly. In »Strau$$«, Mnozil Brass now reveal everything there is to know about Strau$$. Even the very last secret. In the end, nothing remains but the naked truth.
