Christmas: a time for love, reflection and harmony. Yet as we decorate the Christmas tree, a question arises: why does everything become so complicated when all we want is for things to turn out beautifully? Few have captured the little disasters of everyday life with as much warmth as Loriot. His characters want to get everything right, only to fail with a dignity that makes us laugh. Christmas provides the perfect setting: high expectations meet human weaknesses – and the question of whether there really was »more tinsel in the old days«.
Please note: the event will be held in German.
The theatre company The New Entertainment Production invites audiences to a special Christmas edition: light-hearted, lively and guaranteed to be anything but contemplative. Naturally, the Hoppenstedt family will be there! Toys are bought, the Christmas tree is decorated and family harmony is put to the test. Salesmen ring the doorbell, the Heinzelmann vacuum cleaner awaits its moment and, amid Advent poems, the giving of presents and Kosakenzipfel, one question remains: is a cosy Christmas celebration even possible?
The famous scenes from »Weihnachten bei Hoppenstedts« show people just like us: they mean well and want to get everything right, yet somehow manage to talk at cross purposes. This Christmas special brings together Loriot classics and his unmistakable Christmas scenes, for devoted fans and anyone seeing his characters live for the first time. Above all, it is an occasion to laugh together. After all, what better way to prepare for Christmas than to sit back and realise that other families are much the same? Christmas can come. Perhaps the tinsel can, too.
