There is nowhere quite like an opera stage for indulging in achingly beautiful laments and wistful longing. However, this season in the Great Voices (Große Stimmen) concert series, Diana Damrau is bringing heartfelt yearning to the stage at the Elbphilharmonie. As this dramatic evening unfolds, she will slip into roles including Violetta, Juliette and Rusalka with extraordinary compassion as she sings highly emotional music filled with melancholy and suffering. Her brilliant soprano lends itself perfectly to these passionate and beautiful works by the masters of Romantic opera, such as Giuseppe Verdi, Richard Strauss and Charles Gounod. As always, when Diana Damrau is involved, the audience can expect her to link each piece of music to the next as she guides us through the evening’s programme with characteristic theatrical charm.
