The Magnificat itself is actually associated with the Christian celebration of Christmas. »He brings down the mighty from their thrones«, sings Mary prophetically, as she realises she is expecting a very special child, and already sings of what will become reality at Easter. In this way, the Magnificat – which is actually associated with Christmas – and the Easter message are linked by the same central promise: justice triumphs over violence and oppression.
