Alsterpark

The large Alsterpark located on the northwest shore of the Außenalster is popular with all Hamburg residents - between swans, geese, sailboats and nature, is easy to relax and wind down.

For strolls, cycling or only relaxing: Alsterpark is one of the most popular parks in Hamburg. That is certainly because of its wonderful panorama over the Alster. There are many parks along Hamburg’s Außenalster that invite sunbathing, picnicking and recreational activities. The western section in the Rotherbaum and Harvestehude districts is especially popular.
Anything is possible in the Alsterpark, no matter what time it is. Above all, the wonderful view of the Alster is the reason that Hamburg residents meet here at virtually all times – high life lasts from Sunday through the following Sunday. For leisurely strolls, a job along the Alster, a bicycle tour with the family, a picnic with friends or simply walking the dog – you can do any of this in the Alsterpark at any time of day or night.
Park and recreational area At the beginning of the 1950s, the green area was redesigned as a park and recreational area. It has since then become a meeting point for both those seeking peace and quiet as well as action. From here, it’s a stone’s throw to an exercise trail or to any number of boat rental shops that can get every Alster fan onto the water. In the nearby cafés, on the boat piers or on the many meadows, you can actually spend the whole day in the Alsterpark.
It’s especially calm and idyllic in the early morning hours of summer, shortly before joggers start sitting around the Alster. There’s a very special calmness in the air – and the sunrise, which can best be enjoyed from the boat pier on the Rabenstraße – is the perfect way to start the day and compensates for any early rising.

Oasis in the city. Außenalster

The Alster divides into the Binnen- and Außenalster at the Lombardsbrücke bridge. The Außenalster in particular offers excellent recreational opportunities with its numerous parks and adjacent sports facilities. The banks of the Alster in Harvestehude, Uhlenhorst and Winterhude are the preferred living quarters of the wealthy Hamburg residents.
