In Bergedorf a police station was moved in 1992. What remained was an old building, whose further use was up for discussion. Dedicated people with a healthy sense of community turned it into a cultural centre that has enriched the life of the district to this day.

Thalia Gaußstraße

The programme at Thalia on Gaußstraße will have a particular emphasis on the multinational connection and at the same time will be a creative location for unusual and young art initiatives.

Gaußstraße is a constantly developing construction site. In the past ten years, it has changed from a factory site into a creative centre with the charm of a New York backyard. The two most important stage ensembles in Hamburg rehearse here (Thalia and Schauspielhaus). And Thalia has captured a venue here. We keep on designing: the foyer will be more open, spacious and comfortable, and invite communication even more decisively. The second venue beside the Thalia Gauß will in future be the Thalia Gauß Garage, a location with patina.

The construction work continues, and with the imminent new construction of the Hamburg Theaterakademie, Gaußstraße will develop into a campus of the performing arts.

Weird, quirky, beautiful! Schmidts TIVOLI

At Schmidts Tivoli on Spielbudenplatz, the heartbeat of the Reeperbahn comes alive. Visitors from all over Germany come to experience imaginative musical productions, dazzling revues, comedy stars and concerts in one of Hamburg’s most beautiful theatre venues. Since opening on 1 September 1991, the theatre has offered a diverse programme and a unique atmosphere – with 612 seats that bring the audience close to the action. Always new, always good: Die Heiße Ecke - Das St. Pauli Musical provides entertaining entertainment and also Oberaffengeil - a wild trip through the 80s and 90s puts you in a good mood.

As a dinner theatre, Schmidts Tivoli serves drinks and snacks directly to your seat – before the show, during the interval and afterwards – for a perfect night out at the theatre.
