Spicy's Gewürzmuseum

Hamburg’s interactive spice experience museum in the UNESCO World Heritage Speicherstadt

A museum to smell, touch and taste – with over 900 exhibits spanning five centuries. Located in Hamburg’s historic Speicherstadt, visitors experience the fascinating world of spices. Admission includes a spice sample.

A sensory museum experience – in the heart of the Speicherstadt

Set amid the historic warehouses of Hamburg’s UNESCO World Heritage Speicherstadt, Spicy’s Spice Museum invites visitors to explore the world of spices with all their senses. Upon entering, you’re greeted by a rich aroma – just a hint of what’s to come.

From field to plate – experience the journey of spices

On approximately 350 m², more than 900 exhibits vividly illustrate how spices are cultivated, harvested, processed, traded and eventually end up in our kitchens. Authentic tools, antique packaging and historical documents show how spices have shaped cultures and economies.

Smell, touch, taste – interactive exploration for all ages

Over 50 spices and blends are available at interactive stations for visitors to smell, touch and occasionally taste. Whether sweet or hot, earthy or floral – each station is an aromatic adventure.

Spicy tales – a flavorful history

The exhibition is full of fascinating stories about sailors, smugglers and colonial powers – and the immense economic and cultural role of spices. Those wishing to dive deeper can access a free audio guide (DE, EN, FR) via QR code – just bring your own headphones.

Special tip: End your visit by picking up a fragrant souvenir at the on-site shop – house-blend spice mixes make the perfect gift or culinary memento.
