This is how you experience a unique rickshaw day. Stephan Oelke must know: The Hamburg local has offered city tours via rickshaw since 2011. Author Lena Frommeyer got some hints for a successful Hamburg tour from him.
1. For repleted energy: Fill up on a fish sandwich!
Kapitän Schwarz's snack bar is located at the Landungsbrücken next to the entrance to the Old Elbe Tunnel. This is the name of the charming gentleman in plait and captain's hat who has been running the fish sandwich shop for 22 years. The matjes tastes particularly good here.
Stephan Oelke recommends a visit to the cosy Deichstraße and a detour to the Laeiszhof. You can even take a paternoster in the old Kontorhaus. The historic lift transports passengers up and down the floors in endless loops in small cabins.
A rickshaw ride in the sunshine is beautiful. But exploring Hamburg by night with a bicycle taxi also has its charm. Many buildings and especially the harbour are lavishly illuminated. And in winter, the bikes wind through the city - for example from Christmas market to Christmas market. There are also blankets in the cabin.
For example, directly into the ruins of the former main church St. Nikolai, which commemorates the victims of the Nazi era and was reopened as a memorial. A panoramic elevator leads up the steeple of what was once the world's tallest building. A museum in the vaulted cellar provides information about the destruction of Hamburg during the Second World War.
Bicycle demonstrations can be experienced from the back seat of a rickshaw. Stephan Oelke spontaneously joined the column of thousands of cyclists after work. "That was really cool. Even if my engine failed in between and I almost missed the connection." The trip ended at the fish market and shortly afterwards the Queen Mary left the harbour. Pretty perfect!
