GREAT THINGS START HERE The UEFA EURO 2024 in Hamburg

This summer, Hamburg is one of the host cities for EURO 2024! From the 14th of June to the 14th of July, the Hanseatic city will welcome fans and teams from all over Europe. Of course, a good tournament needs a good warm-up. There will be plenty of activities and events before and during the tournament. The Final Draw, the Trophy Tour or the extensive cultural programme - great things start here!

Hamburg is celebrating: for four weeks in the summer of 2024, the Fan Zone Heiligengeistfeld in the heart of the city, surrounded by the city's trendy neighbourhood and not far from its many attractions, will be the place to be for football, sporting activities and great entertainment.

There was great excitement when the groups for the EURO 2024 finals in Germany were drawn on the 2nd of December. Hamburg, with its impressive Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall and the Port of Hamburg, took centre stage. As a special highlight, 25 giant shipping containers were stacked and displayed the competing teams‘ national flags - an impressive start to the upcoming football event!

NEW ICE NAMED

The "Fan Capital" for UEFA EURO 2024 is Hamburg

As an official national partner of the UEFA EURO 2024, Deutsche Bahn has given an ICE 4 train a makeover to create the "EURO-ICE". DB used Instagram to find the "fan capital" for UEFA EURO 2024 in order to give the new ICE a fitting name. The community has spoken: the EURO ICE will be called "Fan Capital Hamburg". The new EURO-ICE will be travelling throughout Germany.

As part of the Trophy Tour, the Henri Delaunay Cup, the EURO 2024 trophy, is visiting all ten host cities. Just in time for the port anniversary, the trophy eventually found its way to Hamburg. During its stay in the Hanseatic city, it visited: The Elbphilharmonie, the Bunker incl. Heiligengeistfeld, the Volksparkstadion, City Hall and Chamber of Commerce, the Miniatur Wunderland and a street soccer tournament.

On top of that, both Hamburg residents and all visitors of the port anniversary were able to take a selfie with the trophy on Saturday. Surrounded by two painted shipping containers, the stand at U-Baumwall was hard to miss. In addition to a snapshot with the trophy, visitors could also get plenty of information about the Fan Zone on Heiligengeistfeld, which will open its doors to fans of the tournament on June 14th.

CULTURE AS A WARM-UP FOR THE EURO 2024 Culture & Football

Even before the official start of EURO 2024 on 14 June, Hamburg is already buzzing with excitement! The Hanseatic city is building excitement for the tournament with a diverse cultural programme. From football opera and urban art to street dance battles, exhibitions and concerts, the cultural scene will present a fascinating combination of art and sport. Events will take place throughout May and June, and some will continue throughout the tournament.

From Hamburg to all of Germany

11 Walls | 11 Goals

"11 Walls | 11 Goals" is a project by Viva con Agua ARTS in collaboration with FC St. Pauli. In the ten EURO 2024 host cities, 14 renowned artists will design eleven walls, including two in Hamburg. Each mural is an individual expression of a social goal for Europe that the artists have committed themselves to. The final event will take place at the Millerntor Stadium on the 30th of May, with exciting concerts and other activities.

Football Opera

The Opernloft is also taking a musical look at football: The Football Opera will premiere on 31 May, with further performances to follow. Young singers will transform the Opernloft in the old ferry terminal into a stadium with a mixture of rousing fan chants and passionate opera arias, creating an exciting 90-minute piece full of energy and drama under the direction of Inken Rahardt.

The most important street dance battle in the world

JUSTE DEBOUT

[For the European Championships, the International Centre for Fine Arts Kampnagel - with the support of FC St. Pauli - has succeeded in bringing the world's most important street dance battle from Paris to Hamburg. The finals will take place on the 1st of June in the Alsterdorfer Sporthalle. 140 international dancers will come to the Hanseatic City for the event. This will be accompanied by the first Hip Hop Dance Week at Kampnagel from the 28th of May to the 2nd of June.

From the 7th to the 9th of June

Street art meets football at STAMP

From the 7th to the 9th of June, the international street arts festival STAMP will present three projects under the motto "Get a kick out of it". "Bounce the ball" will open the festival on the 7th of June with a hip-hop production on the Platz der Republik. On the 8th and 9th of June, "Dream up" will present 24 artistic gateway productions in public spaces, linked by guided tours. A night parade under the motto "You'll never walk alone" in Altona on the 8th of June will be accompanied by local and international groups, while 24 light balls will represent the national colours of the European Championship participants.

Football Moves People

With "Football Moves People", Kampnagel, with the support of FC St. Pauli, puts football at the centre of a year-long programme. Projects such as "Football Echoes" combine football movements with urban dance culture (premiere: 30th of May). "Mosaik FC offers language training and interviews on football culture, racism and integration. "Hools of Fashion creates a critical football line for various teams and fans, presented at Kampnagel and the Millerntor Gallery.

Exhibition from the 06th to the 08th of July

Fan.Tastic.Finals 2024

In the "Fan.Tastic.Finals 2024" exhibition, Football Supporters Europe presents the female national fan culture of Europe through video portraits! The travelling exhibition will be on display in all EURO 2024 host cities, including Hamburg. From 6 to 8 July, the exhibition can be seen at the Teehaus in Planten un Blomen.

A city anthem symbolising diversity and tolerance

Ode to the Hanseatic City

To mark the European Football Championship, the Hamburg Verkehrsverbund (hvv) is presenting "Ode to the Hanseatic City" - an anthem for diversity and tolerance that combines the spirit of football with urban lifestyle. From mid-June, selected newcomer artists will perform this special anthem at three pop-up concerts in typical Hamburg locations. Information on the locations will be available soon on passenger TV and on the hvv Instagram channel.

Hamburg football under the Nazi regime

The Hamburg Foundation for Memorials and Learning Centres in Memory of the Victims of National Socialist Crimes (SHGL) is carrying out a cultural remembrance project funded by the DFB Cultural Foundation. Football has a long history in Hamburg. Under the title "Hamburg Football under National Socialism", the SHGL is organising a varied accompanying programme with an exhibition, guided tours and more, which focuses on the historical dimension of the sport. The focus is on football under National Socialism.

Special exhibition from the 07 May to 01 September

Football and migration

From the 7th of May to the 1st of September, the BallinStadt Emigration Museum is hosting a special exhibition on football and migration. The exhibition explores key questions such as How has the visibility of professional players with a migration history developed over the decades? Other themes include internationality and globalisation, and the racism that still exists in some areas of football.
