The Volkspark Stadium is the home ground of the Hamburger SV and can hold up to 57,000 spectators.
HSV moved from the Rothenbaum sports ground to the stadium in Altona Volkspark in 1963. When the Volkspark Stadium opened in 1953, it was the second largest football stadium in Germany after the Olympiastadion Berlin. For decades, HSV fans made a pilgrimage to Hamburg's venerable Volksparkstadion, which has hosted major events such as the World Cup in 2006 and international matches. Following a major redevelopment in 2010, the Volksparkstadion now holds 57,000 spectators under one roof.
In preparation for UEFA EURO 2024, the Volksparkstadion has undergone further modernisation. For example, a new lighting system has been installed. In addition to the new entertainment lighting, a new sound system will add to the already emotional stadium experience at the Volksparkstadion. Furthermore, the roof membrane was replaced piece by piece (40 fields of 800 square metres each). Wheelchair access and sanitary facilities have also been improved.
Football experiences
The Volkspark Stadium is the setting for HSV home matches, international football matches and other sporting events. The club's home ground is also worth a visit for other reasons. In the HSV Museum, the history of the club is presented in a multimedia format and with unique exhibits over an area of 800 square metres. A visit to the museum can also be combined with a tour of the stadium.
For the right fan clothing, the Arena Store is located directly at the north-east entrance. The HSV fan shop offers a selected range of blue, white and black merchandise. The fan restaurant "Die Raute" is located directly in the north-east of the Volkspark Stadium. It offers a large selection of food and drinks.
In addition to the fan chants at football matches, real music greats perform at the Volksparkstadion every summer. In 2023, Beyoncé, Metallica, The Weeknd and Bruce Springsteen gave concerts at the HSV stadium.
A carefree arrival
Although HSV has plenty of parking spaces*, there can be long queues on the way to and from the stadium. A quicker and healthier way to get to the Volksparkstadion is by bike via cycle routes 12 and 13, where a fenced-in bike park allows you to park and retrieve your bike in no time at all.
Another option is to travel by public transport. The nearest S-Bahn stops to the Volksparkstadion are Stellingen and Eidelstedt (lines S3 & S21) and Othmarschen (S11). The nearest bus stop is Schnackenburgallee (line 22).
