Nordwand

Climbing and bouldering on 3,500 m² in the south of Hamburg

The Nordwand is the most modern climbing venue in northern Germany. With a total of 3,500 m² of climbing walls up to 17 m high, you can really cut loose here.

Climbing for beginners and pros on 320 climbing routes

The Nordwand is the large, modern, sunny and friendly climbing and bouldering hall in the south of Hamburg. Located in the Inselpark, it is perfectly connected to the S3 and can be reached within 10 minutes from the main station. It offers more than 320 climbing routes on 4,500m² of wall space. Whether you are a climbing beginner or a professional - everyone will find the right course here. The facility offers an indoor and outdoor area.

The taster climbing course is aimed at all beginners who would like to try climbing for the first time. Under the guidance of trained instructors, you climb, belay and push your own limits. If you want to go climbing on your own on a regular basis, you can book a beginner's course in which you acquire the necessary skills to be able to climb without a trainer.

Bouldering up to 4 metres jump height

Climbing at a maximum height of 4 metres is ideal for those who want to get a first taste of climbing. Without a harness, rope or belay device, you can get started straight away. Unusual and tricky movements characterise this sport.

Strength, technique, body awareness and balance determine the final move to the last climbing hold. Together, you can fiddle with the problems and help each other find the most efficient way to the goal. Constantly changing "boulder problems" (that's what the individual routes are called in technical jargon) ensure that it doesn't stop at one visit.

Home of good mountaineering cuisine

After a strenuous climbing session, there's nothing better than sharing what you've experienced with your friends over a good coffee and a delicious homemade cake. The "Refugium" is the North Face's own restaurant and is the insider's tip for the best pizza in Hamburg. The chef attaches great importance to the wishes of the customers and so the Nordwand naturally also offers vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free products.

The themes of sustainability and regionality are very important: The finest coffee beans from sustainable production from the Onetake coffee roasting company in Hamburg, milk from happy cows with plenty of free range from Milchhof Reitbrook and fine hoppy products from the Ratsherren brewery.

By the way: the café-restaurant is also happy to welcome non-climbers.

CITY AREA PORTRAIT Wilhelmsburg & Veddel

The Elbe Island of Wilhelmsburg is embedded between the southern and northern Elbe. It impresses visitors with a mixture of industrial charm and bustling life with multicultural flair. With its historic buildings, cafés and shops, the Wilhelmsburg Reiherstieg area is especially popular. It is even called "Little Berlin" due to its transformation in recent years. And then there is the neighbouring island of Veddel, which also has much to offer.
