Germany's biggest outdoor Ice-Skating Arena is situated not only in the heart of Hamburg but also in the heart of one of Hamburg's most beautiful parks "Planten un Blomen". A Garden of Eden in the centre of Hamburg and a popular meeting point for people of all ages thanks to its ice-rink.

Until mid march, ice-skating fans will get their money's worth at this open air ice-skating arena of the size of three ice-hockey fields. Every friday and saturday there is a live DJ heating up the crowd even more.

Those coming by spontaneously can lend figureskating- or ice-hockey shoes at the site. Skating aids/ equipment for kids are available as well.

If you need a break to warm up or regain energy you can enjoy coffee specialities, a hot chocolate, muffins or crepes at the Ice bar in the middle of the ice field, or even a hot dish at the "Blizzard Shop and Restaurant".

The best way to reach the ice arena is to take the U2 or U3 and get off at "St.Pauli" (U3) or "Messehallen" (U2). You will find the entrances to Planten un Blomen at Glacischaussee or Holstenwall, respectively. Bus line 112 brings you directly to the closest entrance, "Holstenwall" (bus stop "Handwerkskammer").

CITY AREA PORTRAIT Sternschanze & Karoviertel

The two districts around Schanzenstraße and Schulterblatt are always in motion. Here, it is colourful and lively, and it has become much fancier in the last few years. Still, the district in the borough of Altona has preserved much of its rough, leftist-alternative nonconformism.
