As the first company on the harbour, Barkassen-Meyer has operated guided tours in sign language in cooperation with DIALOG IM STILLEN® since July 2017.
Tours non-verbal and in sign language
A harbour cruise without "Hey Lucht" is like Hamburg without Michel. But if you want to know about cargo handling and construction projects, background information to ships at anchor and in the shipyard, or the famous “seamen’s yarns” - your guide provides tourists with all facts about the development of Europe's third-largest seaport.
The Dialoghaus in Hamburg, organisers of the exhibitions DIALOG IM DUNKELN® and DIALOG IM STILLEN®, has celebrated successes and broken down barriers for many years. It provides employees to communicate with hearing-impaired guests on harbour tours. “Inclusion is enormously important," says Hubert Neubacher, owner of Barkassen-Meyer. “We believe that it must absolutely be lived in the Port of Hamburg, and are very happy about this great and rewarding partnership."
In addition to tours, where hearing and hearing-impaired persons can take the harbour cruise together and listen to as well as watch both the oral and the signed presentations, there will also be round trips that are only silent. Rona Meyendorf, Exhibition Manager of DIALOG IM STILLEN® says: “We hope to awaken more interest for sign language with these harbour cruises and hope to blur the boundaries between the hearing and the hearing-impaired."
