God Jul – Scandinavic Christmas

Nordic Christmas in the four seamen's churches at the harbour

As every year, the Christmas markets of the nordic seamen's churches are a popular destination for Scandinavia fans and northern lights.

On two weekends in November, visitors can enjoy traditional delicacies and regional specialities from Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark in a typical Nordic Christmas atmosphere.

The Christmas bazaars of the Finnish Seamen's Church (Dietmar-Koel-Str. 6), the Norwegian Seamen's Church (Dietmar-Koel-Str. 4), the Danish Benediktekirken (Dietmar-Koel-Str. 2) and the Swedish Gustav-Adolf-Kyrkan (Dietmar-Koel-Str. 36) will take place from 17-19 November and 24-26 November 2023. For many guests, a visit to the Christmas bazaars is the contemplative start to Advent.

Lucia concert

Already a firm tradition for many people in Hamburg, the Swedish Lucia Concert takes place on th 12th of December in the main church of St. Petri, where the choir rings in the Christmas season with bell-like songs. The Queen of Lights dressed in white followed by the Lucia Choir brings joy and brightness through the many candles into the dark days of the ending year. On the 18th of December, the Benedict church presents a Nordic Christmas concert in the main church of St Michaelis. "Varmt välkommen"!

In the midst of the scene triangle Schanze, Karoviertel and St.Pauli, Wintergarten St. Pauli presents itself with all its sparkling lights. Not a conventional Christmas market, but a market for the neighbourhood and for guests from all over the world. The impression of the market is characterised by Scandinavian Christmas huts.

Visitors of the Historic Christmas Market in front of the town hall in Hamburg can smell roasted almonds and fresh mulled wine from far away. The lovingly decorated Christmas village delights young and old alike. The highlight is the Flying Santa Claus, who flies over visitors' heads in his sleigh three times a day.
