Quatuor Diotima / Mark Simpson
- Concerts

Contemporary music is Quatuor Diotima’s speciality. In addition to three modern string quartets, including one premiere, the ensemble from Paris also performs a clarinet quintet with the British clarinettist Mark Simpson. The Times sees Thomas Larcher’s music as »one of this century’s wonders« – will the premiere of his Fifth String Quartet be received with enthusiastic cheers like the others before it? The work was commissioned by the Elbphilharmonie, which is dedicating a spotlight to the Austrian composer this season.
The German premiere of a piece by the British composer, pianist and conductor Thomas Adès promises similar excitement. His clarinet quintet »Alchymia« (2021) is a commissioned work for the concert series NDR das neue werk.
Quatuor Diotima also bring something from their homeland with them: a new work by the Paris-based Japanese composer Misato Mochizuki, and a frenetic string quartet (2020) by Bruno Mantovani, the long-standing director of the Paris Conservatory, round off the progressive programme on a French note.
