Philipp Maria Rosenberg – Rotwelsch
- Jazz, Blues, Swing & Chanson
»He respected the audience and wanted to offer them good music that they could listen to and love, music that was not primitive but true.« This description of the operetta composer Joseph Beer also applies to the core of Rotwelsch’s music. The trio listens to and loves the »good and true« music of Beer and other operetta composers. As a kind of »Great European Songbook«, Rotwelsch uses arias and songs as the basis for its jazz.
Please note: For organisational reasons, the concert has been relocated to Studio E of the Laeiszhalle.
On the basis of this versatile historical material, he creates new pieces in which direct musical expression takes centre stage. The melody lines, often of almost »heavenly« length and often with touching but never primitive pathos, are transferred by the trio to the instrumental – even the piano hammers begin to sing. Above the sound fields, there is room for improvisation, sometimes thematically unbound, sometimes taking up melodic fragments and motifs and sometimes breaking the tonality, subtly expanding it into noise. The result is a consistent complexity, a panopticon of musical expression.
