Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia / Sir Antonio Pappano
- Classical Music
Only 20 years separate Bruckner’s Seventh Symphony from Schönberg’s First Chamber Symphony, yet the two works are worlds apart: the former is a grand Late Romantic symphony, a musical tribute to the recently deceased Richard Wagner, while the Schönberg expresses the composer’s will to abandon the tonal system and find a new expressive style that placs the emphasis on the development of individual parts. Exploring these very different symphonic worlds is a challenge that the Orchestra dell' Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia is only too happy to take up. »I believe that a musician needs to be a chameleon,« says Sir Antonio Pappano, and gets his top orchestra from Rome to change timbres with every new item in the repertoire.
