Thrilling songs and dance choreographies, hot love scenes and an all-pervasive, bubbling energy - the Musical Footloose has thrilled critics and audiences alike since its Broadway premiere in 1998 and gained cult status. As well as the eponymous film adaptation of 1984 with Kevin Bacon in the lead role, followed in 2011 by a much-noticed remake.
A life without dance and music? In the conservative town of Bomont rock music, alcohol and dancing are strictly forbidden. With that, the newly arrived from Chicago Ren does not want to accept. He quickly has the youth of the town on his side and tries to take action against prohibitions and narrow-mindedness - initially without success. But it's not that easy to stop the rekindled passion of youth ...
It does not take long for the music-loving newbie to conflict with the rigorous morality of Reverend Shaw Moore. For where rock music confuses the senses, drug and alcohol abuse are the devilish episode, Reverend Shaw Moore is convinced since the tragic accident of his son. When Ren finally falls in love with Moore's rebellious daughter Ariel, a contest between the two worlds begins.
By the way, hard to believe, but true: Footloose is based on a true story. For more than 100 years, dancing was officially banned in Elmore City, a small town in Oklahoma. Only in 1980 did the students of the local high school win their right to a school ball.
