The Hamburger Kunsthalle sees itself as an institution for citizens and guests of the city. In addition to discussions about exhibitions and lectures by prominent artists, other types of exchanges contribute to this. The three interlocking buildings from 1869, 1919 and 1997 give the Kunsthalle a stimulating and angular feel. The Hamburger Kunsthalle is one of the most important art museums in Germany.
