Film City Hamburg

Hamburg's various facets again and again serve as film backdrops for cinema and TV productions. The city is popular among filmmakers because the city's different motifs can tell a wide variety of stories. As early as 1919 the film "Die Spinnen" (The Spiders) was shown in Hagenbeck's zoo. Rathaus Schlump parts of Heinz Rühmann's parade film "Der Hauptmann von Köpenick" were shot and Thomas Mann's family biography "Die Buddenbrooks" was also staged in Hamburg. All Hans Albers films made especially St. Pauli and the Reeperbahn famous, but also contained scenes in Sagebiels Fährhaus in Blankenese. Film scenes from Fatih Akin's "Soul Kitchen" (2009) take place in a factory building in Wilhelmsburg and the Astra Stube at the Sternbrücke. The best example of national popularity among filmmakers are the first Tatort episodes with Til Schweiger, which not only show the Elbphilharmonie, but also reveal the outstanding view from one of the luxury apartments in the Marco Polo Tower.
