Restaurant BIEST

The Biest is a great place for people who like to spend a few nice hours with good food and wine in an uncomplicated, young atmosphere, away from frills and fancies on the plate.

In a small, flat-roofed building, the Biest in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel is wedged between two imposing old buildings. You might almost overlook it, if the light that spills onto the pavement wasn’t so warm and inviting. And if the food weren’t that good. Because good food is definitely the focus in the Biest – and word has gotten around in Hamburg. The small guest room with the black chairs is kept simple on purpose; on the white walls, a few single lamps provide pleasant lighting and make the simple glasses and cutlery sparkle expectantly: the perfect stage for a dinner with exciting cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere. The service is competent and uncomplicated, and happy to advice of food and wine. The kitchen interprets German dishes in a refreshingly modern way, but often goes on an excursion towards the Mediterranean and Asia.

The menu is pleasantly short (because everything here is freshly prepared) and yet still offers something for everyone: appetizers and main courses are great for meat and fish lovers as well as for vegetarians and vegans. Here, everyone can be happy and full together.

Those open to culinary experiments will, for example, love a sweet potato falafel on quinoa-mango salad and peanut-sesame dip (€ 11.50). Or how about filet of cod in a mango blanket with beetroot risotto, horseradish mousse and topinambur chips (€ 24.50)? The more traditional palate should definitely try the perfectly grilled rump steak with extra-thick chips, mustard mayonnaise and white cabbage coleslaw (€22.50). The changing dessert menu is also lots of fun: For example, you can look forward to a classic chocolate tartlet, vegan fruit sorbets, semolina flummery with cardamom ice-cream or a really good selection of cheese. The prices for the quality of food are very appropriate: appetizers cost between €7 and €12.50. Main courses cost between €18 and €25. An insider tip is the 3-course meal for a slender €37.50, in which you can choose any three courses from the menu.
