Every year in May, Hamburg ceremonially welcomes the cherry blossoms with a fantastic fireworks display - a spectacle that attracts thousands to the Outer Alster.

Since 1968, the Japanese community has thanked Hamburg citizens for their hospitality with a fireworks display over the Outer Alster. On the model of Washington, the Hanseatic City was given several hundred cherry trees in the 1960s, which still line the Alster today.

Our tip: The best view of the fireworks is from the water. Here you can find an overview of boot rentals around the Alster.
