To see as much as possible in as short a time as possible or to first get an overview, a city tour is great. Hop-On Hop-Off tours usually allow you to get off and on as much as you like so you can visit varous attractions in peace and quiet, and then take a later bus or walk part of the way. There are also offers that include a harbour tour - also a must-see when visiting Hamburg!

When you think of Hamburg, the Elbphilharmonie probably comes to mind first. You can get to know the spectacular building up close during a visit to the Elbphilharmonie Plaza. At a height of 37 metres, you see a circular path on the outer edge of the building that offers a unique view of the city and the harbour from all sides. Tickets for a visit can be obtained free of charge on site or booked online for a small fee in advance to avoid long waiting times. Those who are hungry can also have a snack in the Deck & Deli or enjoy the view with a cup of coffee.

3.Hamburg's Blue Artery: The Elbe

Hardly anything has so much influence on the city as the Elbe. You can experience the "big pots" - i.e. the huge ships - up close in Hamburg at numerous places along the river. Away from the Landungsbrücken and the fish market, there are numerous other spots where you can experience the maritime lifestyle: The Elbe beach near Oevelgönne is perfect for relaxing in summer and invites you to long walks on the beach in a thick jacket in winter. Der Alte Schwede and the museum harbour Oevelgönne are close by and also worth a visit.

Fish sandwiches are simply part of Hamburg, full stop. But not all fish sandwiches are the same, of course. Particularly tasty specimens can be found, for example, at Brücke 10, directly on the Landungsbrücken. Delicate fish sandwiches can be eaten here in a tasteful ambience, always with a wonderful view of the harbour and ships. Fried fish, North Sea crabs, fried herring, herbed matjes... Every fish lover will be happy here!

Fish sandwiches from the snack bar are too boring for you? The Hamburg fish market is calling! At Hamburg's most traditional market, almost everything has been traded that is not nailed down, every Sunday morning since 1703. Almost a whole jungle is sold here - in pots and from the back of trucks... Bananas fly through the air, plastic bags full of sausage change owners for a ridiculous price, Aale-Dieter yells his soul out, crowds of people gather in front of the traders' cars... Definitely a real Hamburg experience!

There are many stories about the origin of the Franzbrötchen. Whether the Hamburg locals tried to make a croissant or fried a baguette in fat - the result still belongs to Hamburg like the city coat of arms. One thing's for sure: The Franzbrötchen is a sweet pastry made of yeast dough filled with cinnamon and sugar, available in two different variations: twisted and pressed. The Franzbrötchen from the Kleinen Konditorei, which now has four branches in Hamburg, have won several awards.

Planten un Blomen Park in the centre of Hamburg is a wonderful destination for families, couples in love and those seeking relaxation. It has a botanical garden with a tropical house and the largest Japanese garden in Europe. Whether you are riding a pony or taking part in a tea ceremony in the Japanese Garden, everyday life is far away here. A special highlight in summer is the fountain light show with music at the lake. From May to September every evening at 10 p.m., the half-hour light show with coloured fountains and regularly changing music programme takes place.

The world's largest warehouse complex, now over a hundred years old, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site - that's the Speicherstadt Hamburg. Here, Hamburg visitors can expect an idyll they would hardly expect to see in a world port: Wilhelminian brick Gothic of the Gründerzeit, bizarre gables and turrets reflected in the canals. The beauty of the Speicherstadt can be explored especially on foot or during a canal trip. Another highlight in the Speicherstadt: the Miniatur Wunderland.
