Grippers, bales of rubber, coffee-sacks, sampling implements - In the authentic surroundings of a warehouse from 1888, you can still experience the original atmosphere of the most unique Speicherstadt of the world.

You will see typical tools and imported goods that illustrate the work of the quartermasters (warehouse workers). From the weighing and the sampling of the goods to refinement by sorting machines and selection by hand, everything that must be taken into consideration in the storage of valuable, imported goods such as coffee, cocoa, tobacco and rubber is shown. Many of the things can be touched, which makes the museum particularly attractive for children.

Other important topics are the tea and coffee trade as well as the history of the construction of the Speicherstadt which is presented with numerous historical photos and blueprints. Also recalled is the nearly extinct profession of the lightermen who used to transport the goods with lighters (barges) to the warehouses.

Regular guided tours, tea tastings and crime-thriller readings are held here. And after the museum visit, you can fortify yourself with coffee, cake and tea specialities in the museum café "Kaffeeklappe".
