Built around 1900, the observatory in Bergedorf is a culturally and historically significant
ensemble of international renown comprised of listed buildings and many
valuable telescopes.
Guided tours for groups can be arranged by telephone; guided tours for individual persons are

The so-called Bischofsturm (Bishop's Tower) is Hamburg's oldest stone structure. Built about 900 years ago, the huge
stone was probably used as a tower house.
The display room in the Bischofsburg (Bishop's Castle) will unfortunately remain closed in the coming months due to rebuilding works.

Hamburg school history is presented here from the Kaiser period, the Weimar Republic, the Nazi era and the postwar years
within the context of social history.
The classroom from the Kaiser period contains original furniture.
"School from the olden days" can be experienced and recreated as an educational game. A permanent exhibition from "School under the Swastika and
New Beginnings in 1945 " informs visitors. Collections exhibit biological preparations,
historical physics instruments, old educational textbooks, photos and more.
A reservation for groups is requested.

From August 1944 to April 1945, inmates of the Neuengamme concentration camp were
brought to the camp at Kaltenkirchen in order to work on a military airfield. 700 inmates probably died as a result.
