Kunstverein Hamburg

The Kunstverein Hamburg is one of the oldest art associations in Germany. Located in a former market hall between the Deichtorhallen and Hamburger Kunsthalle, it has been dedicated to presenting and promoting contemporary art since 1817.

Amongst others, Caspar David Friedrich, Arnold Böcklin and Francis Bacon were all presented in early individual exhibitions. With its changing exhibitions, the Kunstverein Hamburg is able to react flexibly to current tendencies and socially relevant topics. In addition to young, international artists, they also present established artists such as Olafur Eliasson, Liam Gillick, Andrea Fraser and Karla Black. One focus of the work is in the field of art education. This work is funded by the broad civic commitment of its members.
