Christmas in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region

When the advent season begins, the towns and communities around the Hanseatic city attract visitors with their rustic and jovial Christmas markets, each with its own charm. Traditional handicraft markets – at farmhouses, castles or in museums – promise hours filled with a country atmosphere with the fragrance of wood stoves and beeswax candles.

In the lanes of the Hanseatic cities of Stade and Lüneburg, for example, or at the romantic markets of Hitzacker, Buxtehude or Soltau. The otherwise rugged coastal regions of Cuxland and Dithmarschen are also in the Christmas spirit. In Uelzen, one "advent window" is opened daily in probably the largest advent calendar in the region at the Old Town Hall. Small towns beckon with dreamy Christmas markets. There is the festive illumination of a special nativity scene at Bodenteich Castle. Everything is rustic in this town adorned for Christmas at the foot of theSegeberger Kalkberg.
